2-Piece Pet Knot Comb Set for Cats and Dogs

Two combs, two different jobs. One has wider, sturdier teeth for working through a knot; the other is finer, for finishing and lifting out loose hair. Using the right one first is the difference between grooming and a fight.

What each comb is for

• The wider comb starts at the edge of a knot and works inward. It is the one that does the hard part.
• The finer comb runs through clean, detangled coat to lift out shedding hair and check your work.

How to use them without hurting your pet

1. Work in small sections, not across the whole animal at once.
2. Hold the hair between the comb and the skin so you are not pulling directly on the skin.
3. Start at the tip of the knot and work toward the base. Never drag a comb through a knot from the root.
4. Stop when your pet starts to pull away. Come back to it later.

When to stop and call a groomer

If the coat has formed solid mats against the skin, or the skin underneath is red, do not work it out yourself. Mats that tight need clippers, and a home dematting attempt is genuinely painful. This set is for maintenance and light knots, not for a neglected coat.

Who it suits

Cats, small dogs and puppies with medium to long coats, and anyone doing short grooming sessions a few times a week rather than one long battle.

Care

Pull the hair out of the teeth after each use and wash the combs in warm soapy water. Dry them before storing so the teeth do not corrode.
